A tribute to Cree culture
Designed by architect Douglas Cardinal in collaboration with Lemay, Odea Montreal is much more than just a residential building. It is a true tribute to Cree culture, one of the largest First Nations in North America. The architecture, inspired by the shape of a canoe and the boreal forests, evokes the richness and beauty of this cultural heritage. The very name of the project, "Odea," means "canoe" in Cree.
Precast concrete, a material at the service of art and culture
To realize this bold vision, Saramac played a key role, through the manufacture and installation of 569 white architectural concrete panels prefabricated with a light sandblasted finish, giving the building an aesthetic that is both modern and timeless. The choice of precast concrete was based on its durability, speed of construction and aesthetic qualities, including its ability to evoke the bark of a birch tree.
A sustainable and environmentally friendly project
In addition to its aesthetic character, Odea Montreal is also an exemplary project in terms of sustainable development. The use of precast concrete has made it possible to speed up construction, reduce costs and limit the environmental impact. In addition, the building is designed to promote the values of environmental protection and user well-being.
A collective success
This international award is the result of collaborative work between numerous players, including architect Douglas Cardinal, the firm Lemay, the construction teams and Saramac. Their combined efforts have made it possible to bring to life an ambitious and innovative project, which showcases Quebec and Canadian know-how.
